Product description

Albumin test - detect impaired kidney function

The kidneys have many functions, one of the most important of which is to act as the body's own purification plant and filter out small molecules from the blood. A blood test where the level of the substance albumin is taken to indicate whether there is any damage or disease in the kidneys or liver. Healthy kidneys filter waste from the blood but retain the healthy components, including proteins like albumin. Kidney damage can cause proteins to leak through the kidneys and into the urine. Albumin is one of the first proteins to leak out during kidney damage.. Quicktest Kidney Test is a microalbumin test that makes it possible to detect abnormal albumin concentrations in the urine in less than 10 minutes. The test is used to detect early signs of kidney damage, especially in people who are at risk of developing kidney disease or who have a family history of kidney disease.

Why measure albumin?

Albumin is normally present in the urine in small amounts or in amounts so small that it is not even detectable. In kidney disease, more albumin than normal can sometimes be lost through the urine. A high albumin level indicates dysfunction of the kidneys' filtration function and may be a sign of disease or damage to the kidneys or urinary tract. The most common diseases that lead to albumin in the urine are: urinary tract infection or renal pelvis inflammation. The first sign that diabetic kidney disease is developing is usually the protein albumin being excreted in the urine.
