How does your blood pressure monitor work? It's easy. Here are some tips for measuring blood pressure with the Quicktest blood pressure monitor: 1. Rest for 5 minutes: Sit down on a chair with your back against the backrest and your feet on the floor. Rest for about 5 minutes before starting the measurement. 2. Place the cuff: Roll up the sleeves of your shirt so that your upper arm is bare. Place the blood pressure cuff around your upper arm, about 2.5 cm above the elbow. The cuff should fit snugly but not so that it is uncomfortable. You should be able to fit a finger in. 3. Start the measurement: Press the start button, the cuff will inflate and gradually deflate while measuring your blood pressure. Record the results: Note the systolic and diastolic pressure. Blood pressure is usually given as two numbers, e.g. 120/80 mm Hg. The first number is the systolic pressure (the pressure when the heart pumps blood) and the second number is the diastolic pressure (the pressure when the heart rests between beats). It is important to measure your blood pressure in a quiet environment and follow these steps to get an accurate reading. Blood pressure is the pressure in the blood vessels as blood is pumped from the heart to the body and then returns to the heart. If you have elevated blood pressure, the heart has to work harder. The risk of cardiovascular disease in particular, as well as kidney problems, may increase if you have high blood pressure. A normal blood pressure is considered to be around 120/80.

By measuring your blood pressure regularly, you increase the chances of detecting high blood pressure. In recent years, measuring blood pressure at home has become as accepted as taking your temperature.
