CRP test - indicates infection or inflammation in the body

Quicktest CPR test measures CRP concentration. CRP, which is produced in the liver, is a specific protein in the blood that can be used to detect an infection or inflammation in the body. Previously, something called the "sink" was often used, which was actually a Swedish invention and method. Today, a so-called CRP test is taken instead. CRP is an abbreviation for C-Reactive Protein and is an important part of the immune system. Simply put, the concentration of CRP increases during infection or inflammation.Therefore, measuring this value is a safe and reliable way to detect infection or inflammation at an early stage. In healthy individuals, the CRP concentration is lower than 8 mg/l, while the concentration level may be higher than 100 mg/l in severe infection or during an inflammatory process. Intermediate levels, i.e. from 8 to 100 mg/l often indicate viral or bacterial infections that require further investigation by a doctor.

Why test CRP?

In healthcare, CRP tests are common; CRP tests are normally performed when there is suspicion of infection or inflammation in the body. CRP tests can be used to detect serious illnesses that may be caused by bacteria. The CRP value can also be measured to check for chronic inflammation in the body. This applies, for example, to certain diseases of the joints and intestines. The CRP value normally increases when the disease is in an active phase. In healthcare, CRP is taken after operations, to rule out infection. Elevated CRP levels mean an increased risk of future cardiovascular disease. However, it is important to remember that levels >10 mg/L most often detected during an ongoing or recent infection such as a cold. With a self-test, and particularly a CRP test, the main question is usually whether you are healthy or ill. CRP used to be referred to as 'the sedimentation rate'.

A high CRP value is often linked to an infection. It is a very common marker in healthcare, especially in emergency care. A high CRP value indicates that something may not be right and normally leads a doctor to begin a closer investigation into the underlying cause.
