The liver is one of the body's most important organs. If the liver is not healthy, many functions can be affected. Liver problems often develop gradually, and many people miss the first signs that something is wrong. A liver test can provide insight into how your liver is functioning.

The liver helps, among other things, to break down food, cleanse the blood, produce proteins and store energy.

When there are problems with the liver, a number of symptoms may occur, such as dark urine or pale stools, poor appetite, yellowish whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice), abdominal swelling, general weakness or severe fatigue. There are many possible causes related to liver problems, including hepatitis, side effects of certain medications, an extremely poor diet, cirrhosis due to heavy alcohol consumption, obesity, diabetes or high blood pressure.

Many liver tests are available in healthcare, but by far the most common are transaminase tests (ALT and AST), which measure specific liver enzymes. Our liver test detects these enzymes.
