Discover the balance in your vagina with the Quicktest vaginal pH test

An imbalanced vaginal pH is a common problem that can affect women of all ages. When the pH becomes too high, symptoms such as itching, irritation or an unpleasant odor can occur. A balanced vaginal pH is key to a healthy vagina and helps prevent infections such as bacterial vaginosis, which can be caused by unwanted bacteria taking hold when there is an imbalance. It's as simple as this:

Wash your hands carefully and make sure you are in a clean and quiet environment. Insert the top Gently insert into the vagina, usually 2-5 cm, according to the test instructions. Rotate or hold the tip still for a few seconds to collect enough secretions. Take out the top carefully and use it according to the test instructions by applying the secretion to the test cassette. Follow the test manual to analyze the result

The doctor’s view

A balanced bacterial flora is essential for a healthy vagina. Imbalances can present in different ways, but a simple pH test can indicate that something is not right. Fortunately, over-the-counter treatments are available that can effectively relieve or completely eliminate this imbalance.

Frequently asked questions

How does the test measure vaginal pH?
The Quicktest vaginal pH test is used to determine pH levels obtained with a vaginal swab. When the swab containing the vaginal sample comes into contact with the pH test, a color change occurs. Different pH levels are shown by different shades and color intensities on the color scale. The color that appears on the pH test is then compared with the color scale included with the test device. The result visually corresponds to the numerical value of the color on the scale that best matches the color on the pH test.
Can the test be used at any time?
No. Certain restrictions apply because some circumstances can cause a temporary change in vaginal pH. Menstruation, sexual intercourse and the use of vaginal medical products can temporarily alter vaginal pH and lead to inaccurate results.
Does a positive result mean I have bacterial vaginosis?
Not necessarily. Some women going through menopause have an elevated vaginal pH, which can lead to a positive result even if you do not have a bacterial or parasitic infection. Do not start treatment without consulting a doctor.
What is the difference between bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection?
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance in the vaginal bacterial flora, while a yeast infection is caused by fungal overgrowth in the genital area. The symptoms can be similar and often include foul-smelling discharge and itching. However, they require different treatments.
Which factors can lead to incorrect test results?
Test results are affected by several factors, including incorrect sample collection, a swab that was not sufficiently moist, or the use of various topical medications.
Can bacterial vaginosis come back?
It is common for people who develop bacterial vaginosis to experience recurring problems even after treatment. Many experience symptoms when the vaginal environment is less acidic, especially after menstruation and sexual intercourse. Stress and antibiotic treatment can also cause an imbalance in vaginal pH. Likewise, excessive washing of the genital area can disrupt the vaginal bacterial balance and make bacterial vaginosis more likely. If you want to use soap, choose one with a low pH.
