Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) is a viral disease that primarily affects dogs but can also affect other animal species such as foxes, raccoons, coyotes and badgers. It is a highly contagious disease that is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids such as saliva, urine or blood of infected animals. Symptoms of CDV can range from mild to severe and include fever, cough, runny nose, eye inflammation, loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting. In more severe cases, the virus can affect the dog's nervous system and lead to seizures, muscle spasms, paralysis and even death. There is no cure for CDV and treatment is mainly aimed at relieving symptoms. The best way to protect your dog from CDV is to vaccinate him regularly and avoid contact with sick animals.
